Canon PowerShot SX1 IS gaining RAW mode, coming to U.S., Canada
The PowerShot SX1 IS is coming to the U.S. and Canada in April. The Canon compact digital still camera was announced last fall in other parts of the world, and can record 1920 x 1080 pixel video at 30fps, the first PowerShot model to offer 1080p HD recording. It does so with the first Canon-developed CMOS image sensor in a compact camera, one that captures 9.98 million image pixel still photos at up to4 fps.

Casting light on the PocketWizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5
LPA Design has taken the wraps off two additions to its line of radio remote flash and camera triggering devices. Called the MiniTT1 transmitter and FlexTT5 transceiver, they offer wireless TTL control of Canon (and soon Nikon) flashes with some clever twists, a way-cool technology dubbed HyperSync that allows for higher flash sync speeds, new compact shapes (the MiniTT1 is particularly small), user-updateable firmware, interoperability with existing PocketWizards plus superb triggering reliability. We've been shooting with beta units for some time, and can sum up the experience like this: these are killer new tools for the working photographer. Here's a detailed look.

Nikon unveils AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G
Nikon today has unveiled its widest aperture DX-series lens to date, the AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G. With a field of view equivalent to about a 52mm lens on a 35mm sensor size camera, the new Nikon optic combines a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture, one aspherical element, Silent Wave focusing and a nine blade diaphragm for natural-looking out of focus areas.

Canon offering no charge repairs for EOS 5D mirror detachment problem
Canon has discovered a problem with the EOS 5D in which its main mirror can detach from the mirror mechanism. A service notice posted to the Canon USA website, as well as emailed to owners of the camera in the U.S., Canada (and perhaps elsewhere too), indicates that an adhesive securing the mirror can lose its grip over time, and that Canon will fix affected cameras at no charge.
