| WSJ: Tokyo Temporarily Takes in Thai Workers |
| The Japanese government will grant temporary visas to Thai workers employed by Japanese companies in Thailand affected by that country's devastating floods, notes an article in The Wall Street Journal. This will enable Thai nationals to work in Japan for about six months, presumably at hastily-established production facilities in the electronics, automotives and other industries whose factories and suppliers have been particularly hard hit by Thailand's worst flooding in 50 years. Facilities in Thailand that have been damaged or destroyed include a Nikon digital SLR and lens factory, some of Sony's digital SLR, NEX and sensor production and a Canon inkjet printer assembly plant. |
