| Canon announces EOS 60Da digital SLR for astrophotography |
| Canon has unveiled the EOS 60Da, a variant of the company's upper entry level EOS 60D that's designed specifically for astrophotography. The 60Da is built around the same image sensor as the 60D, but it has been reworked for enhanced transmission of a specific wavelength of red light - 656 nanometers - within the visible spectrum. Like 2005's EOS 20Da, this will make the new model well-suited to capturing photos of hydrogen-rich reddish diffuse nebulae. |

| RISC, free first aid training for conflict journalists launched |
| The writer Sebastian Junger has formed an organization called Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues, or RISC, to teach conflict photographers and other journalists the basics of combat first aid in free three-day seminars. Junger started RISC in the wake of the death of photojournalist Tim Hetherington, whose shrapnel wound in Libya last year may not have been fatal if those around him had known how to treat it. |
