Shipping of the Paul C. Buff Einstein 640 monolight is to commence shipping April 5, says company founder Paul Buff in a forum post earlier today: "The first Einstein shipments are going out Monday. With some 3400 per orders it will take some time to ramp up production and shipping to reach ship-from-stock status."

In a separate post, Buff notes the monolight's current US$439.95 U.S./Canada price is slated to rise to nearly US$500 before long: "the cost of producing Einstein has exceeded our original expectations, so we are projecting a price increase to $499.95 in the fairly near future." He also says the price of White Lightning units are poised to drop.
Colour temperature consistency and crisp freezing of motion are the
signature features promised for the Einstein 640, which was announced in
October 2009. Other features include worldwide power compatibility, full
power recycle time of 1.7 seconds, 2.5-640ws range in 1/10-stop
increments, digital controls and compatibility with the Cyber Commander
wireless control system (this requires the optional CSXCV transceiver).
