An Associated Press story reports that the U.S. White House has announced the end of the longtime but little known practice of re-enacting portions of live presidential addresses for the benefit of news photographers. The practice arose to let photojournalists take pictures that look like they were made during the actual address, even though still photography is prohibited during live television addresses. 

The issue became a mild controversy after President Obama's recent press conference announcing the killing of Osama Bin Laden. The White House has not suggested an alternative procedure but says it is open to working one out with the White House press corps, according to the Associated Press.
