The American Civil Liberties Union has posted a guide to the rights of photographers in the U.S. It outlines rules about photographing in public locations, as well as photographing and videotaping police in the course of their duties.

In nearly all cases, these activities are protected by the U.S. Constitution, but there is an ongoing pattern of photographers being harassed, especially by police, while lawfully shooting still images or video, according to the ACLU.
