The British Journal of Photography has recently published an article on pairing audio with still images in audio slideshows. The piece, which includes interviews with several photojournalists and a New York Times picture editor, discusses the added aesthetic and journalistic impact audio can bring to a picture essay, as well as the obstacles involved in producing multimedia pieces.

Several years ago, we published a feature on audio slideshows that addresses some of the same questions, and describes a software application for creating them called Soundslides.
