| Geek.com: Canon seeking patent on low-precision EXIF data |

Geek.com reports that Canon is seeking a patent on methods to reduce the precision of camera EXIF data related to the camera's location and the time the image was taken.
The idea is apparently to balance the benefits of providing this data with the desire to preserve the camera user's privacy. To do this, future Canon cameras might replace the specific time an image was taken with a time range instead, and replace the exact GPS coordinates with a reference to a general location.
