Lexar Media today has announced a new addition to its 16X Pro Series lineup, a 1GB CompactFlash Type II card that is to ship before the end of this month.

Lexar's new card is one of only a small handful of 1GB flash memory-based CompactFlash cards to be announced or hit the market to date. It has a suggested list price of US$1199 (dealers will usually sell for less than list) and features the other accoutrements of their Pro Series cards, including free data recovery for pros, upgradeable firmware and a lifetime warranty.
Late last year, Optosys and Lexar jointly developed a 1GB CompactFlash flash memory card aimed at industrial markets. It features a variant of Lexar's 8X controller (though the card is not speed-rated as such) and is sold exclusively by Optosys.
