Canon USA's Chuck Westfall indicates that the EOS Digital Rebel has begun shipping. Cameras began to depart late last week from Canon USA warehouses; most US dealers should have their initial complement of the entry-level digital SLR in stock this week. Few dealers will receive all of the units they've ordered at first, as demand almost always outstrips supply when a new digital SLR camera is introduced.
The EOS Digital Rebel will ship with firmware v1.0.2, a later version than that installed in editorial review cameras. Changes in v1.0.2 are primarily related to PictBridge printing support and are not expected to alter basic camera functionality, says Westfall.
Note: Story updated to correct shipping firmware version.
