In a story we missed from last December, a researcher at MIT named Michael Hawley used various digital imaging technologies to produce the world's largest published book, "Bhutan: A Visual Odyssey Across the Last Himalayan Kingdom".

Comprising more than 100 pages of images, the book measures 5 x 7 feet and weighs 130 lbs. Each page image was printed from a file nearly 2GB in size, and a single copy of the book uses more than a football field's worth of paper and over a gallon of ink.

Original images were shot on a mixture of film and digital Canon SLR cameras, and the book's pages were printed with HP DesignJet large format inkjets using archival inks and paper. Additional details are available here.
