Apple today announced an addition to its Power Mac G5 desktop line.
The new flagship model features twin 2.5GHz G5 processors and a liquid cooling system for dissipating heat. The dual 2.0GHz G5 continues mostly unchanged, while the 1.6GHz model morphs into a dual 1.8GHz version as part of the refresh of the Power Mac lineup. All G5 models now feature a Superdrive capable of writing DVD-R discs at 8X speeds.
The Power Mac G5/Dual 2.5GHz is slated to ship in July 2004, while the slower configurations are available immediately, says an Apple press release.
A MacCentral article notes that Apple has missed the 3GHz mark promised for the G5 by now, and also quotes a company representative as saying that a G5 processor-equipped Powerbook will not emerge before the end of 2004.
