Copyeditor Bill Walsh, chief of the copy desk for the national desk of The Washington Post, has posted an essay called "The Nine Commandments of Caption Writing" to his blog, The Slot.
The essay, like the excellent blog itself, is aimed at copyeditors of the real and armchair variety, but photojournalists with a literary bent might enjoy it. Or they might not, depending on whether they take this passage personally:
"What about what the photographer wrote? Use it strictly in an advisory capacity. Photographers are photographers, not writers. Some know how to write and spell; many do not."
