Back in September, Editor and Publisher announced the winners of its 5th annual newspaper Photos of the Year competition.
Benjamin Krain of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette won the Grand Prize for his photographs of Afghanistan. In the second paragraph of the announcement, there is a link to a gallery of images by Krain and several other winners in various categories.
