Lexar has now released the details of its 80X card firmware update program.
Under the program, any owner of an affected 80X CompactFlash card can have it exchanged for one that is running firmware that fixes an incompatibility with newer Canon digital SLR cameras. The firmware isn't user-installable. In most or all cases, the photographer will receive back a replacement card and not the same card as was sent in.
The Lexar web site enables the user to request a return authorization (RMA number) online; the company indicates it will begin shipping replacement cards starting on June 3, 2005.
Any Lexar Pro Series 80X CompactFlash card, from 512MB through 4GB, and whose production code ends in A4B6 or 9171, is eligible for replacement.
