Camera Bits has released v4.5.3.2 of Photo Mechanic for Mac and Windows, after a public beta period. The release fixes a number of minor bugs, adds support for rendering RAW files from the Nikon D60 and Olympus E-3 in the Mac version plus it introduces product activation to the pro photo browsing and transfer program for the first time.
Photo Mechanic 4.5.3.2 is a free update for those who have purchased a license since March 2006 (or March 2005 if you have a student copy), or US$90 to upgrade an older license (US$100 for delivery on CD). A new license is US$150 (or US$160 on CD). A trial version is available (registration is required to evaluate the software).
More information is in the version history below.
Version 4.5.3.2
(Mac) Added support for as-shot RAW rendering using ImageIO on Mac OS X 10.5.3 for the Nikon D60, Olympus E-3, and the Sony DSLR-A200 and DLSR-A350.
(Mac) Restored speed of browsing and ingesting flash cards due to Mac OS X 10.5.3 update.
Added support for reading Nikon's frame number from maker notes of newer cameras.
Added the ability to synchronize the color class value with the IPTC/XMP Urgency field. This provides color label compatibility support for Nikon Capture NX 2 and other applications that use the IPTC/XMP Urgency field for non-standard purposes.
Sound files (.WAV) that are named "SND_xxxx.WAV" are now attached to photos that have the same frame number as part of their filename (e.g. "IMG_xxxx.JPG").
(Win) Fixed issue in IPTC Info dialog where there were two date controls instead of a single date and single time control.
(Win) Holding down the Shift key when opening the Page Setup dialog causes the current Default Printer to be acquired.
Ingest now ignores folders that begin with a period ('.').
The IPTC Info dialog now correctly saves the IPTC Date and Time when set to Capture Time or Modification Time.
Applying an IPTC Stationery Pad with Capture Time or Modification Time now works properly. Doing so now also sets the IPTC Time as well as the IPTC Date.
Spaces are now inserted between the command and the next keyword in the Keywords field.
The JPEG quality setting now works properly on the entire set of Uploader templates.
(Win) Fixed problem with cursor positioning when using Code Replacement on a text field with multiple lines.
(Mac) Fixed a problem with temporary filenames being too long when copying photos to a Windows server using AFP.
(Mac) On Leopard, applying the Color Class via keyboard shortcut would apply the setting multiple times. This has been fixed.
(Mac) The Color Class snapshot button in the General tab of the Preferences dialog now works correctly.
(Mac) Fixed a problem in Save As where the saved filename would have a .JPG.TIF extension when TIFF was the chosen output and the source was a RAW photo of a RAW+JPEG pair.
(Win) Structured keywords help file is now correct.
Sorting by {lens} now works properly for focal lengths greater than or equal to 100.
Added code to recover from missing settings data from Export and Uploader templates.
XMP settings for Adobe Camera Raw are no longer embedded into JPEGs (e.g. when updating XMP from a RAW file to its JPEG pair).
XMP sidecar files are no longer transferred when FTP As is used on a RAW file to upload a JPEG or TIFF.
Revision History August 7, 2008: Corrected an error in the description of the free update period.
