Nervian, a new company based in California, has announced plans to ship a memory card reader designed to sit securely inside the handle opening of an Apple Power Mac G5 or Mac Pro desktop. Called the CardReader Pro, it's a USB 2.0 reader that features four memory card slots with support for CompactFlash, SD/SDHC and other formats.
The Nervian website indicates it will ship in October 2008 in two colours: black or white. Price has not yet been disclosed. Those who sign up by September 12, 2008 to be notified of the CardReader Pro's availability will receive 15% off the purchase price in the company's online store.
Note that the website description indicates the CardReader Pro can "[t]ransfer a gigabyte of data in under 18 seconds," which at over 55MB/second seems impossibly fast based on the write and read throughput capabilities of both memory cards and USB 2.0 today.
