Portfolio host liveBooks to roll out iPhone/iPad support in early May
Tuesday, April 13, 2010 | by Rob Galbraith
Portfolio hosting service liveBooks will switch on support for the Apple iPhone and iPad starting next month.

At that time, the service will automatically detect that one of Apple's mobile devices is browsing a photographer's liveBooks website and redirect the viewer away from a Flash-based gallery to an HTML version that includes the ability to navigate using a swipe gesture. The size of photos that appear will be dictated by whether it's the smaller iPhone or larger iPad doing the surfing.

Via liveBook's editSuite module it will be possible to choose a theme, background colour and main page colour. Also within the editSuite it will be necessary to enable the new iPhone/iPad detection capability once it's live, says John Philpin, CMO of liveBooks. A number of liveBooks customers have already created their own mobile device sites, he says, and might wish to continue to use those. So the redirection to liveBook's upcoming iPhone/iPad site rendering won't happen unless the user explicitly turns on this feature.

New text formatting options and the ability to include hyperlinks in the image information area of a gallery photo will be rolled out at the same time as the iPhone/iPad support. That's slated to occur in early May 2010.
