Canon posts EOS 5D Mark II video shot by Vincent Laforet
Monday, September 22, 2008 | by Rob Galbraith
Canon has posted a video shot by photographer Vincent Laforet using a preproduction EOS 5D Mark II. Laforet captured the video in and around his home base of New York City during two nights of shooting earlier this month. The resulting twelve hours of footage was edited to produce a three minute demonstration of the camera's moving picture capabilities, called Reverie.

Night Light: A video by Vincent Laforet, shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and available for viewing on the Canon Digital Learning Center website

The Canon Digital Learning Center version of the video is 960 x 540 pixels. This means it's being presented at one-quarter of the 5D Mark II's 1920 x 1080 capture resolution, and so doesn't quite show the full quality of what the camera recorded. Laforet, a member of Canon USA's Explorers of Light, recently showed us Reverie at 1920 x 1080, and it's fair to say the quality is superb throughout.

Equally interesting is a behind-the-scenes look at Laforet and his small production crew creating Reverie. Additional information about how the video was lit (using the modeling lamp from a single Profoto Pro-7b pack and head), shot and edited is on Laforet's blog.

Update, September 23, 2008: A 1280 x 720 pixel version of Reverie that was being hosted on Laforet's SmugMug page has now been taken down (the behind-the-scenes video remains online there).
