Canon updates EOS Utility for Mac
Thursday, February 2, 2012 | by Rob Galbraith
Canon USA has posted EOS Utility 2.10.4 for Mac. The only stated change is compatibility with OS X 10.6.8 and 10.7.x.

Note that this new version is not intended for use in earlier instances of the Mac OS. EOS Utility 2.10.2 for Mac is recommended for OS X 10.5.8 - 10.6.7, and remains available for download.

Also, if you're running a much earlier version of EOS Utility now, and your camera is several years old too, be aware that the newest releases of EOS Utility have ended support for most older Canon digital SLR models.

The cameras supported in EOS Utility 2.10.4 are:
  • EOS Rebel XS/1000D
  • EOS Rebel XSi/450D
  • EOS Rebel T1i/500D
  • EOS Rebel T2i/550D
  • EOS Rebel T3/1100D
  • EOS Rebel T3i/600D
  • EOS 40D
  • EOS 50D
  • EOS 60D
  • EOS 7D
  • EOS 5D Mark II
  • EOS-1D Mark III
  • EOS-1Ds Mark III
  • EOS-1D Mark IV
EOS Utility 2.10.4 (and EOS Utility 2.10.2) are available from several of the digital SLR support pages on the Canon USA website, including the page for the EOS 5D Mark II. Follow the link and then choose your operating system to access the updater. The software won't install unless you have EOS Utility or certain other Canon software already on your system or, alternatively, the CD that came with your camera, called EOS Digital Solution Disk, is mounted.

EOS Utility for Windows remains at v2.10.2 and was last updated in August of 2011.
