Photo Mechanic Lite, Pro 2.0r4 posted
Wednesday, July 12, 2000 | by
Camera Bits' Photo Mechanic Lite 2.0r4 for Mac and Photo Mechanic Pro 2.0r4 for Mac are now available for download. Changes in the popular newspaper digital camera image browser include:
  • A thumbnail from QuickTime movies, including those generated by the Coolpix 990, will now be displayed in the Contact Sheet window. The movies will not play from within Photo Mechanic; instead, double-clicking on them will launch Apple's free QuickTime Player application.

  • Bugs related to the sharpening and display of thumbnails and previews has been fixed.

  • Most of the fields in the IPTC Stationery Pad can now be configured to be either pull-down menus or text fields.

  • The renaming suffix can be "locked." This is handy if you wish to always have the sequential numbering of photos continue from where it left off previously. In addition, the sequential numbering suffix can include alphabetic characters, such as a photographer's initials: rg001, rg002, rg003 for example.

The Pro version is built on Kodak's software development kit, and as such it supports Kodak/Canon pro digital camera files as well as JPEGs from the Nikon D1. The Lite version lacks Kodak/Canon support and is aimed at users of the D1 and other mostly-JPEG digital cameras. Both 2.0r4 Lite and Pro are available in a two week trial versions.
