Adobe posts release candidate of Camera Raw 4.6
Thursday, September 18, 2008 | by Rob Galbraith
Adobe has posted the release candidate of Camera Raw 4.6, the next version of its RAW conversion plug-in for Photoshop CS3. Camera Raw 4.6 adds the Fujifilm FinePix IS Pro, Nikon D700, D90 and Coolpix P6000 to the list of RAW files officially supported by the software. In addition, five cameras make the unofficially supported list, including the Canon EOS 50D and Sony Alpha 900, which means their RAW files can be converted but Adobe has yet to complete its quality assurance testing for these models.

Camera Raw 4.6 release candidate for Mac and Windows can be downloaded here. More information about v4.6 is in a Lightroom Journal post.

Be sure to also grab and install Adobe's beta colour profiles, if you haven't already. We've been using the Nikon D3 and D700 camera neutral profiles regularly for about three months, and have found them to provide a dramatically better colour starting point than anything we've seen from Camera Raw previously. As of this writing, the beta profiles package hasn't been updated since their release in mid-July, so you won't find profiles for cameras like the Canon EOS 50D or other ultra-new models in the download.
