The average high temperature in Calgary, Canada in January is -3.6°C (26°F), with cold snaps that see that number plummet to -20°C (-4°F) or cooler. This is where I live.
The average high temperature in St.Thomas (in the US Virgin Islands) for the same month is 25°C (77°F).
These weather facts were all the convincing I needed to join Kevin Gilbert on the instructor staff of Caribbean Click II, a digital photography education cruise aboard Cunard's Queen Mary 2 to San Juan, St. Thomas and Philipsburg, St. Maarten in early 2005.
Co-produced by Blue Pixel and Geek Cruises, the week-long event in the eastern Caribbean combines what should be a fabulous warm-weather vacation and opportunity to hone one's travel photography skills with a healthy dollop of digital camera and digital workflow instruction from myself and Kevin.
Instruction will cover the full range of digital workflow topics, from shooting through to archiving, with an emphasis on both making great pictures and making the digital workflow work. The Seminar page on the Geek Cruises web site breaks down the topics to be covered in greater detail, while Geeks on Board, a QuickTime movie, offers a glimpse at what it's like to participate in a Geek Cruise week.
The Queen Mary 2
Caribbean Click II runs from January 22 - 29, 2005, and sails out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It's part of Blue Pixel's Digital Destinations series of photography education trips.
The seminar portion of the week is US$695; the cost of the cruise, flights and other travel costs are in addition to that. Registration is open now. For more information on the seminar itself, send questions to email@example.com.
