Sandisk unveils dual-function Wi-Fi/flash memory cards
Thursday, January 9, 2003 | by
Sandisk today has unveiled a line of memory cards that include wireless Wi-Fi (also known as 802.11b or Apple Airport) functionality and flash memory in a single card, as well as 802.11b-only cards in both CompactFlash and SD formats. Called Connect, the cards combine up to 256MB of flash memory and a wireless transmitter. One possible future application for the dual function cards, says Sandisk in a press release, is transmission of photos directly from a single-slot digital camera:

...several camera manufacturers are exploring the development of new digital cameras (with single card slots) that would enable photographers to use a Connect dual-function card to take pictures and then use wireless connectivity to send the images to friends or business associates.

More information about pricing and ship dates are in a Sandisk press release.
