Large CF, SDHC support in trio of Canon firmware updates
Wednesday, December 20, 2006 | by Rob Galbraith
Canon has released firmware updates for the EOS-1D Mark II, EOS-1Ds Mark II and EOS-1D Mark II N that enable these camera models to properly recognize the capacity of CompactFlash cards larger than 8GB (such as SanDisk's Extreme III 12GB and 16GB), as well as accept SD cards that adhere to the SDHC specification.
The release notes for EOS-1D Mark II firmware 1.2.6, EOS-1Ds Mark II firmware 1.1.6 and EOS-1D Mark II N firmware 1.1.2 are identical in describing the changes:

Q : What has been changed in this firmware?

A : It includes the following improvements: It fixes the phenomenon wherein the camera does not detect the capacity correctly when high-capacity recording media are initialized.

a) SDHC cards with capacities exceeding 2GB (e.g., 4GB, 8GB) are now supported.
b) The phenomenon wherein the camera cannot correctly detect the capacity of CF cards with capacities exceeding 8GB (e.g., 12GB, 16GB) correctly when they are initialized has been corrected.
