Nikon D4-compatible version of ShutterSnitch in beta testing (updated)
Wednesday, March 14, 2012 | by Rob Galbraith
The current version of ShutterSnitch, v2.2.1, is not compatible with the FTP mode of the Nikon D4: pictures either arrive incomplete or not at all. That's the bad news. The good news is we've been testing a beta copy of an upcoming release of the software for receiving photos from a networked camera to an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, and the glitch appears to be completely solved.

Developer Brian Gerfort says the D4-friendly ShutterSnitch update, probably to be called v2.2.3, will be submitted to Apple shortly. When it actually appears on the App Store is then dictated by Apple and its app approval process, but if all goes smoothly it could be available before the end of the month.

Another ShutterSnitch update, v2.2.2, is already in the approval queue, says Gerfort, and will precede the update with the D4 fix. ShutterSnitch 2.2.2 contains a correction for a zoom problem that affects the third-generation iPad and its 2048 x 1536 pixel display. ShutterSnitch 2.2.2 isn't out yet, but is anticipated to be granted approval by Apple soon.

Update, March 13, 2012: The rollout plan for the ShutterSnitch version with the D4 fixes has now changed, says Gerfort. It will be v2.2.2, and it's likely to show up on the App Store within the next seven days or so.

ShutterSnitch is currently selling for half of its regular price. The sale ends Friday.
