PDNOnline: U.S. agribusinesses pressing to criminalize photos of farms

PDNOnline has posted a story about efforts by agribusiness-friendly legislators in the U.S. states of Florida and Iowa to make photographing farms without the farm owner's permission a crime. "The proposed laws are in response to photos and videos that animal rights activists have made showing mistreatment of animals at factory farms," says PDNOnline.
The proposed Florida law would apply even to photos taken from public spaces such as roadways. The Iowa law would apply only to photos taken on farm property, but it seeks to criminalize the distribution and publication of such photos, meaning, for example, that a newspaper could face criminal liability for publishing a photo taken on a farm if the paper did not first get the farm owner's permission.
