Apple posts Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.4
Thursday, November 11, 2010 | by Rob Galbraith
Apple has released Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.4 for the Mac OS. Aimed primarily at those running OS X 10.5.8, it adds support for the RAW formats of ten additional digital cameras including the Canon EOS 60D and PowerShot S95, Nikon D3100, Hasselblad H4D-40 and more.

The full list of newly-added cameras is as follows:
  • Canon EOS 60D
  • Canon PowerShot S95
  • Hasselblad H4D-40
  • Nikon D3100
  • Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5
  • Sony DSLR-A290
  • Sony DSLR-A560
  • Sony DSLR-A580
  • Sony SLT-A33
  • Sony SLT-A55
Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.4 is available via the Software Update mechanism of Mac OS X v10.5.8 (and possibly OS X 10.6.2 - 10.6.4 too, though we can't confirm that) or as a standalone updater.

If you've installed Mac OS X 10.6.5, released yesterday, your Mac will already have gained the ability to view and convert RAW files from these new models, making Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.4 unnecessary. Applications that make use of RAW decode support in the operating system include Aperture, iPhoto and the Finder.
