Mirrorless CSC camera sales and market share growing
Monday, February 13, 2012 | by Eamon Hickey
CIPA, the trade association of Japanese camera manufacturers, has released figures showing that mirrorless compact system cameras (CSC) accounted for 22.7% of worldwide interchangeable-lens camera (ILC) shipments over the second half of last year. That's more than double the CSC market share for 2010, which stood at around 10-11%, according to estimates by market research firms.

Compact system cameras are especially popular in Japan, where they accounted for 46% of shipments in the second half of 2011. Although they are much less popular in Europe and the Americas, where they command less than 20% of the overall ILC market, CSC market share has approximately doubled in those regions, as well.

The new CIPA figures were presented at the recent CP+ trade show in Japan and reported by DC Watch Impress. The DC Watch report was spotted by the web site 1001 Noisy Cameras, which has re-arranged the CIPA pie charts into an easily understood bar graph
