Delkin announces SD-Xtra SD cards with built-in USB connectivity
Saturday, February 19, 2005 | by Rob Galbraith

Delkin is one of two companies this week to have unveiled Secure Digital cards that incorporate the ability to plug directly into a USB port, and operate at USB 2.0 speeds.

The Delkin SD-Xtra line of Secure Digital cards join SanDisk's Ultra II SD PLUS. Each company's product is not a clone of the other, however: SanDisk's Ultra II SD PLUS cards feature a hinged mechanism that enables switching from SD to USB connectors. Delkin's SD-Xtra cards, by comparison, employ a removable end cap to accomplish the same thing.

SD-Xtra cards will initially be available in 128MB and 256MB capacities, starting in March 2005. In the second quarter of 2005, Delkin plans to ship 512MB and 1GB versions.
