Microsoft Future Pro Photographer contest offers US$46,000 in prizes
Sunday, May 13, 2007 | by Rob Galbraith
Until May 31, Microsoft is accepting entries in its US$46,000 Future Pro Photographer competition, which the company bills as "the most lucrative contest of its kind and provides a unique opportunity for college and university student photographers from around the world to showcase their artistic talent and photographic style."
The contest will award a Grand Prize of about US$25,000 in cash plus digital hardware and software, plus there will be three First Prize winners - one for each contest category -  receiving about US$7000, also in cash, equipment and software. Winners will be announced July 11, 2007 at this year's Microsoft Pro Photo Summit event. The contest categories are Nature and Landscape, People and Portraits and Fine Art.
Microsoft found themselves in some hot water in 2006, when the terms for the inaugural Future Pro Photographer contest including all-encompassing usage rights to photos entered. To their credit, the company responded quickly by revising and restating the contest terms to make it clear they intended to use contest submissions for future contest promotion only. The revised terms carry through to the 2007 competition.
More information is in the contest blurb from Microsoft below.
