New version of Soundslides to add pan/zoom, thumbnail menus and more
Thursday, May 24, 2007 | by Rob Galbraith
Joe Weiss, creator of Soundslides for Mac and Windows, is preparing a more-advanced version of the slideshow program that will add several new display options, including Ken Burns-style pan and zoom effects, a thumbnail grid, next/previous buttons and per-slide transition selection. It will also be possible to create slideshows without audio.
In a post today on the Soundslides forum, Weiss offered the following details about the upcoming release:

I've been quietly rounding up beta testers for the last 2 months.

It's not just an update, it's an entirely new version of Soundslides - the long planned pro version.  New features include image movement (pan & zoom), built-in lowerthirds, thumbnail menus and the ability to create traditional (non-audio) slide shows.

It will cost more than Soundslides, however the full purchase price of Soundslides will count towards the cost of the pro version if you already own it.  I haven't finalized the price yet, but I'm committed to keeping it within range of individual photographers.

Soundslides will continue to exist for those folks that don't need the new features, and there's a 1.6 update coming that includes individual transition control.

I wasn't going to release the public beta of this pro version until I returned from next week's NPPA Multimedia Workshop - but I'll see if I can get a few issues worked out and release a public test version of "Soundslides Plus" before I leave for Portland.

So to recap ... there will soon be two versions of Soundslides.  The existing version, and a new advanced version called Soundslides Plus.

I'll link in this thread when the public beta is ready.

A slideshow created with a beta version is here.
