Fujifilm, Kodak, Konica Minolta seek CD, DVD archiving standards
Monday, September 27, 2004 | by Eamon Hickey

Kodak, Fujifilm, and Konica Minolta have announced an agreement to jointly develop open standards for the long-term preservation of digital images and movies on CDs, DVDs, and other storage media.

The effort, to be known as the Picture Archiving and Sharing Standard (PASS) group, intends "to enable digital file compatibility with future playback devices," according to a Kodak press release.

The announcement is short on details, and the press release invites input from other imaging industry sources for the development of the group's version 1.0 specification, which it hopes to release early next year.
