Pixmantec releases free pro-level RAW file processing application
Saturday, February 19, 2005 | by Rob Galbraith

Startup software developer Pixmantec has today released RawShooter essentials 2005, an impressively full-featured RAW file editing and conversion application.

The initial release of the Windows-only application is available for download now, at no charge. Pixmantec wants to get the software onto the hard drives of as many photographers as possible, and has therefore opted to make the first release of the software available for free (though you must first register and agree to receive future emails from the company).

Pixmantec, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, was founded by former Phase One staffers Michael Jonsson and Kenneth Tang Laerke. Jonsson was one of the key developers of Capture One when at Phase One.

A Mac version of RawShooter essentials 2005 is not planned.

Digital Outback Photo has published a good overview of RawShooter essentials 2005; the article's author - RAW format afficionado Uwe Steinmueller - is clearly impressed with the new software.
